About the Project
John Holland continues to deliver major rail infrastructure programs across Western Australia, supporting the safe and reliable movement of passengers and freight. Our signalling teams work across complex brownfield and greenfield environments, partnering closely with clients, consultants and delivery teams to deliver technically challenging outcomes.
This role will be based in our Perth CBD office and support multiple rail projects across WA, providing exposure to large‑scale, safety‑critical rail systems and long‑term career opportunities within a Tier 1 contractor.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Signalling Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across rail signalling design activities in Western Australia.
In this role, you will take ownership of the design assurance and delivery of signalling systems across multiple projects, acting as a trusted technical authority for both internal teams and external stakeholders. You will play a key role in ensuring designs are safe, compliant, buildable and delivered to the highest standards, while mentoring engineers and supporting project success from tender through to construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assure the delivery of high‑quality, safety‑critical rail signalling designs across multiple projects.Act as the senior technical authority, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, rail industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee signalling design activities to ensure alignment with project scope, budgets, schedules and quality expectations.
- Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to signalling engineers and design teams.Interface with clients, design consultants and contractors to resolve technical and constructability issues.
- Support tendering and scope development activities, including engagement of design consultants and third‑party reviewers.
- Conduct detailed design reviews and ensure design documentation is accurate, complete and fit for purpose.Identify and manage technical, safety and delivery risks, embedding safety in design principles throughout the lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with project management, construction and engineering teams to support seamless delivery.
What We Are Looking For
- Extensive experience in railway signalling design, ideally 15+ years delivering complex rail infrastructure projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards, rail safety frameworks and industry best practice.
- Tertiary qualifications in signalling, electrical, telecommunications or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent industry experience.IRSE
- Signalling Principles Designer certification (or equivalent), with demonstrated technical authority.
- Proven experience leading design teams and managing multiple signalling workstreams.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work across clients, consultants and construction teams.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in time‑critical environments.
