About the Role

John Holland has been awarded a $130 million contract by Fortescue Metals Group to construct 143 km of heavy haul track, an extension (Design & Construct) to the existing Signalling and Train Control Systems and a traffic capacity extension to the communication infrastructure on the Eliwana Mine and Rail Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

An opportunity has arisen for a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Coordinator to join the project team.  This role will operate in a FIFO capacity on a 2/1 roster.  Point of Hire for this position is Perth. The successful candidate must be available to attend work on the project sites.

Responsibilities of the role include (but are by no means limited to):
  • Ensure the safety of all track construction team members and ensure their compliance with established safety policies, procedures and practices.
  • Analyse safety problems and recommend solutions to appropriate supervisor.
  • Conduct routine HSE inspections, monitoring and analysis of work areas.
  • Conduct investigations of site accidents and incidents that may require litigation.
  • Assist with workers compensation claims and rehabilitation processes.
  • Create, evaluate and administer safety programs for all employees.
  • Monitor compliance with the HSE systems and procedures within the workplace and provide operational support to the Project Management Team.
  • Support management and dissemination of information.
  • Survey, evaluate, investigate and gather information that will address inadequacies concerning safety, health and environmental matters.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and documentation concerning the aspects of the safety program assigned.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules and regulations including government regulations, standards and policies. 
  • Maintain knowledge of safety policies and procedures to enable the performance of assigned duties in a safe manner.
  • Maintain professional relationships with regulatory bodies, clients and peers to foster the professional image and integrity of the organisation.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures.
  • Drive and support the John Holland HSE Behaviours program.
To be successful in this key role, you must have;
  • Diploma Safety in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • ICAM Investigation Qualification or similar
  • Remote First Aid Qualification (Preferred)
  • Cert IV in Environmental Management (Preferred)
  • C Class Drivers Licence
  • Construction HSE management (1+ years, or experience equivalent).
  • Experience in supporting stakeholder groups and teams within area of responsibility such communicating with frontline employees and first line managers
  • Ability to interpret project related documents, preparing reports and monitoring compliance documentation
  • Quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and development skills as well as monitoring of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects
