About the Project

 

John Holland is progressing the development of Stage 1A of the multi-stage Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal project, a pivotal development set to transform the logistics landscape in Victoria, Australia. This initial phase marks the beginning of a journey towards creating a state-of-the-art facility that will streamline the movement of goods across the nation and beyond.

 

Strategically located to harness the full potential of its proximity to key transport links, Beveridge is poised to deliver unparalleled efficiencies in the distribution of freight. With the latest advancements in logistics technology at its core, Stage 1A lays the groundwork for a hub of innovation, ensuring that cargo is moved with unprecedented speed and precision.

About the Role

 

The Primary role of a Contracts Manager is to direct and control the contracts administration function, overseeing estimating to ensure contracts are met within cost estimates and are administered efficiently. 

 

Manage the head contact and sub-contract documentation, obligations and project legal requirements.

 

Responsibilities of the role include

 

  • Direct and organise control of all cost engineering, cost reporting and forecasting
  • ­Ensure the establishment and maintenance of a register of subcontractors  and identify all key data in relation to each subcontracts
  • ­Ensure selected subcontractors and suppliers are acceptable to the project.
  • ­Conduct negotiations with subcontractors and ensure all subcontractor agreements are closely aligned to the project’s risk management principals
  • Oversee the procurement process for all subcontract and supply agreements to ensure that all packages are awarded on time and within budget
  • Oversee the calling of quotations and letting of tenders for contracts to be let. Ensure effective contract administration, in conjunction with operations personnel and contract administrators.
  • ­Interpret and apply relevant legislation/code on the project to prevent potential business exposure
  • ­Lead the identification and quantification of Head Contract Scope changes and all subsequent negotiations with the Client
  • Manage any disputes or major claims with subcontractor or the Client 
  • Oversee the preparation of monthly progress claims for work completed and approve disputed progress payments to subcontractors as referred by contract administrators
  • Stakeholder management: Ensure that stakeholders are actively engaged and that beneficial relationships between the project and the client, subcontractors, community and other external parties are developed and maintained
  • People management: Monitor staff and labour resourcing to ensure the project has the capability to achieve targets, supervise workforce, including subcontractors, and foster a high performance team within a positive employee relations environment
  • Financial management: Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management, accurate forecasting of both costs and revenue, take corrective action in line with JH’s authority and reporting frameworks and maximise the profit margin for the project
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures

 

To be successful in this role we are looking for

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business or associated disciplines
  • Construction Management qualification or equivalent ­ CA/CPA ­ Post graduate qualification in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business or associated disciplines

 

Experience

  •  5 -10 years’ of relevant commercial experience in the construction and engineering industry ­
  • Contractual management of a variety of project values and complexities ­
  • Negotiation of contractual terms, variations and progress claims ­
  • Demonstrated application of Corporate Limits of Liabilities and contractual and commercial systems, processes and procedures ­
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in relevant software packages such as Microsoft Suite (including Excel) and exposure to a contract management system (CRM)
  • 2-5 years’ experience working as a Contracts Manager in the construction and engineering industry ­
  • Contractual management of design providers
