The Opportunity:

John Holland’s Major & Strategic Projects division is currently constructing some of Australia’s most complex infrastructure projects, including Westgate Tunnel, Melbourne Metro (CYP), Torrens to Darlington (T2D), M7-M12 Interchange and Sydney Metro West -Eastern Tunnelling Package.

 

We are currently seeking a General Manager Health, Sustainability and Environment (HSE) to be based in either Melbourne or Sydney. Reporting to the Executive Director for Major & Strategic Projects, this role is accountable for the following:

 

  • Providing operational direction, support and oversight of all aspects of health, wellbeing, safety, environment and sustainability
  • Leading and managing the implementation of HSE strategies, systems and initiatives across the BU and reporting progress to and on behalf of the Major Projects Senior Leadership Team
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of all relevant legal, regulatory and company requirements associated with HSE; ensuring management and staff are informed of any relevant changes and their impacts
  • Developing and implementing HSE education, as well as compliance and improvement programs for employees, clients, contractors and visitors
  • Ensuring that the Major Projects division implements and monitors the JHG SQERM Operational Risk Management processes, capability, focus and discipline.

About You:

  • Bachelors degree in Science, Safety, Environment, or other related disciplines
  • 10 years HSE experience in construction, engineering or heavy industry fields (with major infrastructure/ heavy engineering/ road/ rail/ mining/ tunnelling and underground construction/ power and transmission highly desirable)
  • Several years experience managing and leading a HSE function in complex and high risk industries
  • Regulatory and audit knowledge
