About the role
John Holland’s Rail and Transport Business Unit delivers end to end rail and bus solutions across Australia and New Zealand, from major $1bn+ brown and greenfield rail projects to complex operations and maintenance franchises.
As the Rail NSW and Queensland Pre-Contracts Manager you will develop new business, customer relationship management and tendering strategies and lead the Pre-Contracts team to execute these strategies to win profitable work. You will also protect and grow revenue by actively managing relationships with high value clients. You will manage a team of around 12 permanent staff, increasing to 100+ during larger tenders.
Responsibilities of the role include
- Lead the new business teams to convert prospects to projects through the EOI, Tender and Post Tender phases, up to and including contract award.
- Play a leading role in supporting the bid managers throughout the tender phase, including leading governance reviews.
- Undertake commercial reviews of prospects to ensure that each is financially viable, margin expectations can be achieved, and risk profiles comply with corporate guidelines
- Lead or participate in post tender negotiations, contract formation, award and project launch. Oversee effective handover from the tender team to the delivery team.
- Commercial and financial management: Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management, accurate forecasting of both costs and revenue; Ensure that all tender are financially viable, margin expectations can be met and risk complies with corporate guidelines
- Ensure all pre contracts activities comply with JH governance, policies, processes, systems and procedures
- Strategic planning: Identify current and future markets and industry trends. Develop and implement business development strategies that successfully convert prospects into projects and that maximise revenue and profitability; determine the probability of winning a prospect and allocate resources to turn these opportunities into wins
- Key account management: Develop and maintain strategic business relationships with key clients and industry partners that result in viable prospects
- People management: Build, lead and develop the capability of the new business team within a positive employee relations environment
What we are looking for
Qualifications:
Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Sciences, Project Management or Construction Management
Experience:
Essential
- 15+ years of construction, project management, tendering or operations experience
- 8 years of working with key clients
- Strategy development and implementation
- Management of complex, multidisciplinary tenders
- People leadership and management of multiple tender teams
- Contract, commercial and financial management
- Quantitative and qualitative commercial, safety, environment and quality risk assessment and development of risk controls
- Proposal writing and expressing complex ideas in simple language
Typical
- 10+ years of pre contracts experience in construction
- Complex project management and project delivery
- In-depth market and technical knowledge in the rail sector
