About the role:
John Holland has been selected as delivery partner with Ausgrid for EnergyCo’s Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone project (HCC REZ).
The project involves upgrading the existing electricity network and construction of two new substations to allow connections to a range of renewable energy sources and will be a significant enabler for the Hunter region’s clean energy future. The delivery solution minimises the impact on the community and environment while delivering the capacity to transfer more than 1 GW of renewable energy.
John Holland has been involved in the energy sector since the 1960s when we helped deliver the Snowy Mountains Scheme, and we’re excited to re-enter in the Energy market by being part of another iconic project.
The Senior Contracts Administrator is responsible for leading the commercial and contractual management of project subcontracts, ensuring contract compliance, financial performance, effective risk management, and alignment with project objectives. This role provides expert commercial guidance, oversees contract administration processes, manages subcontracting and supports the Commercial Manager in delivering strong project governance and commercial outcomes.
This role is based out of our Sydney Pyrmont office with travel to site once a month and accommodation provided.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Ensure effective and efficient commercial, contractual, and financial practices are maintained.
- Clearly report and communicate key commercial matters including change control, variations, disputes, risks, and any other emerging issues.
- Effectively manage the administration subcontracts through all phases include scope preparation, procurement, cost forecasting, subcontractor management, claims/variations processing, completion and close out.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with contract requirements and assist delivery team with procurement related activities.
- Assess commercial and contractual risks, identify and implement appropriate controls and escalate actual or potential issues to Commercial Manager and or Project Manager.
- Support the Commercial Manager and Project Manager with commercial reporting.
- Provide mentoring, and guidance to junior commercial staff and site administrators.
To be successful in this key role, you must have:
- Experienced commercial or contract professional with tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Engineering, Law, QS, Construction Management, etc.)
- 5+ years’ experience in contract administration on major infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of complex contracts, commercial governance, and procurement requirements
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise in fast paced environments; strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Analytical thinker with strong problem solving capability, able to interpret contract obligations and assess risks
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and confident using project systems such as Aconex, SAP, PPW, and JDE
