About our TEK Technical Design team

The Technical Design stream of TEK comprises subject matter experts in the disciplines of temporary works design, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, and traffic engineering.  We work closely with the various business units providing technical support and solutions to win and deliver safe and commercially successful projects by mitigating risk and developing innovative solutions.


About the Position

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our TEK (Technology, Engineering and Knowledge) division based in our Pyrmont office. Working within our Technical Design team, reporting into our Group Manager – Temporary Works, you will be accountable for supporting John Holland projects and tenders with technical expertise in temporary works design.  Drive best practise approach in identifying, designing, and documenting temporary works solutions to position John Holland as a market leader in the delivery of building, infrastructure, and rail projects.  


Your key tasks will include (but not limited to):


  • Lead project launches from a temporary works engineering perspective to set projects up for success. 
  • Develop and deliver technical training.
  • Identify Design and Programme opportunities, value engineering and innovations
  • Identify and mitigate temporary works risk on John Holland projects and tenders.
  • Identify and pursue value add opportunities on John Holland projects and tenders.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines within TEK to achieve value outcomes.
  • Develop cutting edge solutions to help win work and manage risks in project delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate the work of external Temporary Works consultants allocated to the project to ensure that their progress meets requirements, and cost targets are achieved.
  • Assist with developing temporary works registers on tenders.
  • Apply and promote consistency in temporary works engineering practices and knowledge sharing across the business


To be successful, you’ll have the following:


  • Bachelors degree in civil/structural engineering from an institute recognised by Engineers Australia
  • Chartered Member of Engineers Australia and listing on National Engineering Register
  • A minimum of 5 years design experience producing technical outputs related to the design of structural steel, timber, and reinforced concrete elements
  • Advanced structural and numerical analysis capabilities
  • Knowledge of commonly used proprietary systems
  • Diverse understanding of varied construction methodologies and techniques on civil and building projects
