About the M1 South - Blackhill to Tomago project:

A joint venture between John Holland and Gamuda Australia has been selected by Transport for NSW to deliver the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace Southern Package - a key missing link in one of the country's busiest transport corridors.

 

The $1.029 billion southern package will deliver a 10-kilometre dual carriageway motorway extension between Black Hill and Tomago. There will be 8 bridges that include a 2.6km viaduct and new congestion-busting interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro and Tomago.

About the role:

We are currently looking for a Sustainability Coordinator/Advisor to join our team based in Newcastle, NSW.  Reporting to the Environment and Sustainability Lead, the successful candidate will have a good understanding of and be passionate in their view on sustainability.  You will be responsible for providing advice to the project and support the delivery of initiatives that continue to improve how we deliver sustainability work to our client and community. You will also be assisting in the delivery of our ISC Sustainability rating for the Project. 

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Assist in the delivery of sustainability rating aspects and compile documentation for independent verification
  • Monitor and support reporting on key sustainability performance objectives, targets, and requirements
  • Monitor project sustainability risks and opportunities to ensure compliance with sustainability standards requirements and the Project systems.
  • Consult with other teams to identify opportunities for efficiencies and streamlining of sustainability processes and outcomes, striving to be a leader in the industry
  • Assist in the implementation of sustainability strategies and key innovations during construction
  • Conduct project and supplier and/or subcontractor audits and inspections as required
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, data, and compliance documentation
  • Increase the projects’ understanding of sustainability through assisting in the development and delivery of education programs that are aligned with JHGA JV Sustainability Strategy
  • Provide technical sustainability support for the construction and completions phases of project
  • Assist in the communication of sustainability performance outcomes and risks to key stakeholders and seek opportunities to share lessons learnt

To be successful in this key role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Science, Engineering or other associated disciplines
  • 2+ years’ experience within the Sustainability field, experience in construction industry is essential
  • Sound understanding of sustainability principles and application within the construction industry, including Sustainability Rating Schemes such as Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Green Star, NABERS and WELS. ISAP (Infrastructure sustainability Accredited Professional) Accreditation v 1.2 with experience delivering an As-Built rating essential
  • Understanding of sustainability management techniques, Project Approval processes and requirements.
  • Basic understanding of Federal, State & Local sustainability statues & legislation
  • Passion and drive for driving sustainability in the construction industry.
