About the Project:

 

The Princess Alexandra Hospital Expansion Project is a major healthcare infrastructure initiative in Brisbane designed to increase capacity and improve access to specialist health services for Queensland’s growing population. The project will deliver 250 new inpatient beds, additional cancer treatment bays, expanded pharmacy and medical imaging facilities, and upgraded clinical spaces through the construction of new levels above the existing Emergency Department. As one of Queensland’s busiest tertiary hospitals, Princess Alexandra Hospital provides world-class trauma, transplant, cancer, rehabilitation and acute care services, with the expansion ensuring it can continue to meet increasing healthcare demand and support better patient outcomes for years to come.

About The Role:

 

As our Safety Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of health, safety and environmental initiatives across the project, ensuring compliance with legislative, contractual and company requirements. The role will see you working closely with the Project Leadership Teams, you will drive a proactive safety culture, provide expert guidance on risk management and compliance, and support project teams and subcontractors to achieve outstanding HSE outcomes. You will be responsible for overseeing incident management, investigations, reporting, stakeholder engagement, injury management and continuous improvement programs, while leading and developing a high-performing HSE team. This position will see you play a critical role in ensuring a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible workplace for all personnel throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Lead and maintain compliance with the project HSE Management System, legislation, regulations and contractual requirements.
  • Partner with project leadership to drive a strong safety culture and promote safe behaviours across the workforce.
  • Provide specialist HSE advice and support to project teams, contractors, clients and stakeholders.
  • Implement risk management processes, including hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead HSE audits, inspections and assurance activities, ensuring corrective actions are effectively closed out.
  • Manage incident reporting, investigations and regulatory notifications, ensuring lessons learned are embedded.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training, improvement initiatives, emergency response programs and leading indicator activities.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier HSE compliance, onboarding and safe systems of work.
  • Monitor, analyse and report on HSE performance, maintaining compliance and risk registers to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead and develop the HSE team while supporting stakeholder consultation, injury management and return-to-work programs.

What we are looking for:

  • Diploma in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent) and/or a degree in Safety, Environment, Project Management or a related discipline.
  • 5 years + experience in HSE leadership within construction and major project environments or similar
  • Lead Auditor qualifications in Safety and Environmental Management.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS and environmental legislation, regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience in qualitative and quantitative risk assessment, management and control implementation.
  • Demonstrated capability in auditing, compliance management, stakeholder engagement and driving positive HSE outcomes.
