Title: Safety Advisor
Cocoroc, VIC, AU, 3030
About John Holland:
At John Holland, our purpose is simple – we transform lives with everything we do.
We’ve always known that infrastructure is about people — our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we work every day.
That’s our difference. Deep experience and capability with a genuine care about creating better lives for people along the way.
Be part of the team that’s up for the challenge of transforming lives for good.
About The Project:
We’re delighted to have been chosen by Melbourne Water to deliver a world-first solution for the rehabilitation of the Western Trunk Sewer (WTS).
We’ll be relining a 4.4km section of the existing sewer main using a technique known as slip-lining. And while the technology itself isn’t new, the challenge is, no one’s ever done it with such a large diameter pipe – in this case, 4.3 metres – AND in live flow conditions.
The Western Trunk Sewer is one of Melbourne Water’s most important assets, transferring approximately 57 per cent of the city’s total annual wastewater flow.
This project adds to the diverse portfolio of work we’re currently delivering for Melbourne Water.
We are looking for a Safety Advisor to join our Western Trunk Sewer project based at the Western Treatment Plant in Werribee, just about halfway between Geelong and Melbourne.
Your Role:
As a Safety Advisor you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and contractors. You’ll be part of a safety team that leads the implementation and continuous improvement of our safety management systems. You’ll carry out hands-on inspections and audits, and provide trusted, practical advice to support safe work delivery every day.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with project teams to identify and mitigate potential hazards, develop and deliver safety training programs, and monitor compliance with safety standards. You will also investigate incidents and accidents, provide recommendations for improvement, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our safety culture.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of safety legislation and best practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. You will have a proactive approach to safety, be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
About You:
- The ability to thrive in a dynamic and busy environment
- Experience within the Construction or high-risk industry
- Diploma Safety in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (desirable)
- Experience in HSE management techniques and tools
- Experience supporting teams to identify risks, manage them effectively, and follow through to make sure controls stay in place.
- Strong working knowledge of standard computer applications, with the ability to quickly pick up new systems and use them effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to conduct and interpret audits and reviews
As part of the team, you help us deliver on our promise to transform lives
