The Project

The consortium of John Holland, Bouygues Construction, Arcadis Australia, Jacobs and Ventia has been selected to build South Australia's biggest-ever road infrastructure project. In partnership with the South Australian Government, this consortium forms the Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance.

 

The Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Alliance, will deliver the final 10.5km section of the North-South Corridor, forming a continuous 78 km, non-stop, traffic light-free motorway, and contributing to a long-lasting legacy for the community and people of Adelaide.

 

The T2D Project involves constructing two separate tunnels – the Southern Tunnels and the Northern Tunnels connected by an open motorway, with a combined total distance of 10.5km, open to traffic in 2031.  The T2D project comprises the tunnels, surface works including road and bridge construction in addition to services buildings and complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The T2D Alliance is committed to providing opportunities for local people, Aboriginal workers, apprentices, trainees and job seekers who are long-term unemployed and offers people an incredible opportunity to be a part of an iconic project.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Plant Engineer to join the T2D Project and play a key role in delivering one of South Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Surface Plant Manager, you will provide engineering expertise across cranes, gantries, lifting frames, mobile equipment and other specialised construction plant supporting major project activities.

 

This is a hands-on, site-based opportunity for an engineer who enjoys working closely with construction and engineering teams, tackling complex plant and lifting challenges, and developing practical solutions in a dynamic project environment.

 

You will be involved across the plant lifecycle, from selection and mobilisation through to operation, compliance and maintenance, working collaboratively with the Surface Plant Manager, construction teams, subcontractors and project engineering functions to ensure plant and lifting equipment are safely, efficiently and effectively deployed across the project.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support and technical advice across cranes, gantries, lifting frames, mobile equipment and specialised construction plant.
  • Support the selection, mobilisation and deployment of plant and equipment to meet project and construction requirements.
  • Review lift studies, crane configurations, load charts, lifting capacities and associated engineering documentation.
  • Provide engineering input into bridge erection, launching, heavy lifting and other complex construction activities.
  • Assess temporary works requirements, including propping, access systems, temporary structures and load requirements.
  • Work closely with construction teams to identify and resolve plant, lifting and engineering challenges on site.
  • Support plant inspections, certification, maintenance and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Develop and review risk assessments, lifting plans, methodologies and engineering controls to ensure safe plant operations.
  • Maintain accurate plant, maintenance and compliance records through MEX and other project systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement across plant safety, reliability, compliance, utilisation and operational performance.

About You

You will be an experienced engineer with a strong understanding of construction plant, heavy lifting and site-based engineering. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced major project environment and translating engineering requirements into practical solutions.

  • Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Civil or a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience working with cranes, gantries, lifting frames, mobile equipment or specialised construction plant.
  • Strong understanding of lifting operations, lift planning, crane configurations, load charts and lifting capacities.
  • Experience with bridge construction, heavy lifting, temporary works or complex construction methodologies is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience providing practical, site-based engineering solutions in a construction or major infrastructure environment.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS requirements, Australian Standards, lifting regulations and risk management.
  • Experience with plant inspections, certification, maintenance and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Experience using MEX or similar plant maintenance and asset management systems, with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
