About the Role

 

We are looking for a Verification Officer to join our North East Link - Hoddle to Burke project

The Eastern Hoddle Bourke Alliance (EHBA) is made up of John Holland, Seymour Whyte and design partners Mott MacDonald and Jacobs Group, in partnership with MRPV. The scope of works includes upgrading six kilometres of the Freeway with new traffic lanes, bridge upgrades and urban noise walls, a dedicated busway (fully segregated from mainline traffic), and a new bridge over the Yarra River.


The NEL Project involves the design and construction of the upgrade of the Eastern Freeway from Hoddle Street in the west to Burke Road in the east, including:

  • 6km of brownfield freeway widening to accommodate additional traffic lanes in each direction
  • 3km dedicated busway separated from mainline traffic
  • Significant structures including 600m of bridges, including a 180m architectural steel shared use path bridge of the Yarra River
  • Freeway-wide scope including ITS, retaining walls, stormwater drainage, noise walls, lighting and signage

 

Role responsibilities

 

The primary objective of this position is to independently verify that construction activities comply with approved design, standards, specifications, and ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans). This role is part of the quality assurance team, it includes proactive observation, trend spotting, and risk escalation.

 

  • Conduct routine site surveillance and formal verification inspections at Hold/Witness Points in accordance with ITPs.
  • Verify works against approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and applicable standards (VicRoads, Austroads, etc.).
  • Confirm materials and workmanship meet project requirements prior to release to subsequent construction stages.
  • Maintain accurate surveillance logs, verification checklists, photos, and supporting quality records.
  • Identify, report, and escalate early signs of non-conformance, quality issues, unsafe acts, or deviations from approved methods.
  • Assist with the identification, tracking, and close-out of NCRs in collaboration with Quality Coordinators and Engineers.
  • Participate in prestarts, toolbox talks, and briefings to understand upcoming works and high-risk activities.
  • Provide objective evidence and support for internal, external, and TB46/47/48 audits.
  • Comply with EHBA policies, procedures, EH&S requirements, and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and industry practices.

About You

 

  • Demonstrated experience as a quality assurance professional for engineering and/or civil construction.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ construction experience with a strong focus on quality, inspection, or verification activities.
  • Sound working knowledge of client standards, construction specifications, ITPs, and testing requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and technical documents
  • Familiarity with Document Control Software - (InEignt) desirable.
  • Applicants must have a valid Driver’s Licence.
